Specialist Equipment

Here at The Ark we are able to perform a large range of sterile surgical procedures. These vary from routine operations such as cat castrations and other more complex neutering such as bitch speys, through to the more advanced orthopaedic procedures such as fracture repairs and joint surgery for example, anterior cruciate repair.

Upon admission our in-patients are all weighed and examined, pre-anaesthetic blood samples are taken and based upon results the appropriate pre-medications are given prior to anaesthetic induction. Our induction anaesthetic is given into the forearm (cephalic vein) by intravenous route. The cat or dog is then maintained on a gaseous mixture of oxygen and anaesthetic agent during the procedure. Our anaesthetic machines use the latest veterinary gaseous inhalation anaesthetic for small animals “Isoflurane”. These are operated by our highly trained veterinary nursing team assisted by monitoring devices such as a respiratory monitor (Ap. alert) and blood pressure monitoring.

After any operation the nursing team closely observes all of our patients until their recovery is complete. Your pet is constantly monitored throughout the rest of their stay.
